About this course
This course presents the basics of occupational safety and health in the workplace, focusing on hazards, accidents, injuries and how to control them. It starts with an introduction to the science of occupational safety and health, then gets to know the international standards organizations. After that it explains the definitions and types of hazards in two parts, the difference between hazard and risk, and the hierarchy of control that sets the priorities of prevention. Then it moves on to safety culture and types of accidents, risk analysis and assessment, and work sheets. The course also covers important practical topics such as confined spaces and hydrogen sulfide gas, the fire triangle, types of fire and how to put them out, manual handling, and safe mechanical lifting operations. It suits workers in factories, sites and facilities, new safety officers, and anyone who wants to understand the basics of this field. The learner does not need previous experience, because the explanation starts from the definitions. By the end, the learner can recognize hazards in their workplace, assess them, choose the right control method and handle fires and lifting work correctly.
