About this course
This course teaches motion graphics and video editing on your phone using the Alight Motion app. It starts with an introduction to motion graphics and some key ideas about video, then shows you how to open a new project and get to know the interface. Next you learn to use the layer cutting tool, understand the basic color wheel, create gradients between colors, and work with the basic motion properties and layers. Then you move on to animation: the basics of animating with keyframes, animating all the different properties, and a hands-on practice of the basic movements. In the last part you learn professional animation with the Graph editor and how to apply stretch and squash to motion. The course suits anyone who wants to make videos and animations from a phone, whether you are a beginner or a content creator. You do not need any previous motion graphics experience, only a phone that runs the app. By the end you will be able to animate elements and text with keyframes and the Graph editor, and produce motion graphics clips from your mobile.
Expected outcomes
- Create professional motion graphic projects using mobile.
- Master Alight Motion tools to design standout videos.
- Ability to use Keyframe for dynamic animations.
- Enhance video quality using professional editing techniques.

1Motion Graphics on Mobile Using Alight Motion
14 lectures
- Introduction to Motion GraphicsIntroduces motion graphics: what it means, how it differs from video editing, 2D versus 3D animation, and why Light Motion on mobile was chosen to learn the fundamentals.13:23
- Explaining Important Concepts about VideosExplains what video is, its history and how it is built from successive images and sound, plus the concept of frames and the common frame rate per second.13:50
- Opening a New ProjectShows how to create a new project in Light Motion: choosing the video aspect ratio, resolution, frame rate and background color, and managing projects by deleting, duplicating and exporting.11:18
- Getting to Know the Program InterfaceIntroduces the Light Motion interface and its tools: the preview screen, timeline, properties window, project browser and markers, and how to restore the default layout.16:59
- Using the Layer Cutting ToolExplains adding shapes and elements to the video and the basic layer controls, including muting audio and splitting a layer at the playhead into two, or trimming its right or left part.7:40
- Explaining the Basic Color WheelExplains the color tools in Light Motion: fill and border, the color wheel, saturation, brightness and opacity controls, the color picker, and why color theory matters.14:01
- Creating a Gradient Between ColorsExplains gradient fills between two colors and their linear, radial and angular types, how to move the color points to shape the result, and a tip on choosing harmonious colors.7:15
- Basic Properties of MotionExplains the basic transform properties: adding borders, moving and resizing a shape, rotation and number of turns, and the anchor point the shape rotates around.13:28
- Working with LayersExplains working with layers: adding a layer, changing its order, hiding it, duplicating it, cutting it, and setting how long it appears on the timeline.19:49
- Basics of Animation Using KeyframeExplains the basics of keyframe animation: placing markers on the timeline and adding keyframes for position, size and rotation to move a shape from one place to another.15:24
- Animating All Different PropertiesShows how to animate several properties with keyframes, including size, rotation, position and color, in sequence on the timeline, with advice to practice and imitate real motion.12:41
- Practical Application on Basic AnimationsA hands-on exercise on basic motion: animating a circle's size and position with keyframes, then duplicating it into rows that move across the screen in the same style.11:40
- Professional Animation Using Graph EditorExplains the Graph Editor for controlling speed between keyframes, and how easy in and easy out give realistic motion, such as a ball that starts slowly and then accelerates as it falls.18:03
- Applying Stretch and Compression to MotionExplains applying squash and stretch to a bouncing ball for realistic motion, combined with speed control in the Graph Editor, and building a simple scene with a background.18:09
