About this book
Paris in the 19th century. Marguerite Gautier is a famous beauty of the city's salons. She lives on rich men who pay for her dresses and her parties, and she is never without a bouquet of camellias. Armand Duval, a simple and honest young man, loves her, and she leaves her whole old life for him and moves with him to the countryside.
But Armand's father comes to her in secret and asks her to leave him, to save his future and his sister's good name. She agrees, and gives up her love without telling him why, so he believes she betrayed him. Armand learns the truth only after she dies alone, when he reads her diary.
