About this book
Victor Frankenstein is a young student who dreams of giving life to the lifeless. He succeeds, and stands before a huge creature whose eyes have just opened — then runs from it in terror at what his own hands have done.
The creature is cast out into a world with no mercy for it. Alone, it teaches itself to speak and to feel, then asks its creator for one thing no reasonable being would refuse. Victor's refusal opens a door of revenge that never closes, and a chase begins that runs from the laboratories of Geneva to the ice of the far north.
This is the complete, original text of Mary Shelley's 1818 novel, the book that founded horror and science fiction as we know them, still asking the same question after more than 200 years: is the responsibility of creation heavier than the responsibility of death?
