About this book

In a basement in London, on 3 September 1821, a man of 29 lowers a light wire into a bowl with a magnet standing in the middle, and connects the electricity. The wire turns around the magnet, and turns, and does not stop. For the first time in the world, electricity becomes motion.

This is a novel, not a biography. It starts with a poor boy who has one loaf of bread to last him the week, follows him as an apprentice who binds books and reads each one before he closes it, then as a young man with 4 tickets in his pocket to the lectures of the scientist Davy, and then as the greatest experimenter of his time. The events, dates and names are real, and the story is told in scenes and dialogue as if you were watching it.

The science is explained with pictures from daily life: a small horse tied to a stake, a water mill, iron filings on a sheet of paper, a candle. No equations and no difficult terms. A final section tells you clearly what is real and what is imagined in every chapter.

The book is written in Arabic.
